Draft Unit Plan Outline

Title: "Tour through the Spanish-speaking World"

Description/summary: In this lesson/unit students will be individually researching a Spanish speaking country. Students will be focusing on geography, culture, the flag, a map, and current facts relating to their specific country. Students will produce a video that incorporates this information about their country in a creative way.

 Learner Analysis: This Spanish class consists of 20 tenth graders in a moderately sized suburban school district.

Students will create a video that incorporates specific details about an assigned Spanish speaking country. They will produce this video using text, a video clip, graphics, music and sound effects.

Activity Sequence Summary:

Day X

  1. Students will be assigned to a specific Spanish speaking country.
  2. It is explained that the students are to research about their country using a variety of media. They are to research the culture, geography, history and other important facts pertaining to their country.
  3. The video project is explained. The students are informed that they will be presenting their country in some form of media (poster, power point, video…) and this will be presented to other faculty and students at a multicultural fair at their school.

Day X
Students are provided with research days to research about their country.

Day X
Lab days are scheduled to provide students’ time to explore different media formats they can choose to present in.

Day X
Students will complete storyboards (etc) as preplanning for their presentations.

Day X
Students will present their projects at a multicultural fair and invite other students and faculty to attend.
